Don’t have a popsicle maker? Me neither! How about Berry Basil Slushy making instead? Cold, refreshing, and easily made into an adult fun treat! I’m not really a uni-tasker kitchen appliance kind of girl. I have so many things in the kitchen, SO MANY! My organized ocd side doesn’t love the mass amount of things. The chef and blogger side wants all of it! But my sensible middle ground side looks at kitchen purchases carefully.
Over the years I have accumulated many things in the kitchen that I just don’t use. I am into a simple uncluttered lifestyle. So over the last year, and especially on this last move, I majorly decluttered the entire house. While we are still working on unpacking, nothing goes away unless we scrutinize if we need or want it. I swear I am getting to the popsicle making point. Ok, here it is. I had this popsicle recipe on my editorial calendar for sometime now. I had the popsicle plastic thingy on my to buy list. But every time I went to the store to buy one, I skipped it. For me, I am only going to use a handful of times through the Summer. That is not worth the space in my kitchen decluttering simple life. Then when I was with Brian buying some essential house stuff i stopped to finally buy the popsicle thingy and then I finally decided to not buy it, and make slushies instead! I go back and forth on that decision, until I made the slushy, now I have no seconds thoughts on that non purchase. All you need is a blender, which is way more common than a popsicle thingy.
Slushies can be fun, are super refreshing, and easy to freeze for later enjoyment. You can use whatever fruit you have on hand in the freezer, or fresh. Make is fizzy with Sprite, ginger ale would be yummy, or sparkling water. Make it fun adult tasty with moscato, or bubbly. Amp up that fruit with herbs! Yes, herbs. Basil and ginger are some of my favorites when it comes to dessert and fruit. So I made these with basil from Gourmet Garden. The lightly dried basil always has a home in my freezer and a dash in desserts, popsicles {if you have a popsicle maker thingy :)}, or slushies is a great addition of flavor.
Berry Basil Slushy
makes 2 large slushies
Ingredients:
4 cups assorted frozen berries, I used blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries {see note below}
3/4 cup sparkling water, Sprite, Ginger Ale, or moscato
1 tablespoon Basil, I used Gourmet Garden Lightly dried basil
note: If using fresh fruit, add 1 cup ice.
Method:
1. Place all ingredients in a blend. Blend on high until well blended. Serve ice cold with a straw! Keep in freezer in a much larger container than the actual slushy mix for up to a couple of days. Use an ice cream scooper to scoop into cups.

Lol, yes!!!

I have way too many kitchen gadgets too. You totally don’t need popsicle molds to make these – slushies are just fine!

This looks so fresh and delicious!

Berries and basil are such a lovely combination! Have you ever tried berries and sage? Equally as delicious 🙂

I don’t have a popsicle mold either so I’ve been using small paper cups and popsicle sticks. That said, they’re kinda a pain to eat in that shape so a slushy like this sounds way easier and better!

Slushies! I still love a good popsicle, so the cup idea is happening for sure.
Carla
I’m actually the opposite and use my popsicle maker all the time! However, slushies are much faster to make 😉

I totally get it. I may cave and buy one lol.

I’ve actually been brewing a TON of blueberry basil kombucha, so I know that I LOVE the flavor combo! This slushy sounds so perfect for the 100 degree weather we’re having! Pinned!

Oh now that sounds amazing!!!
Kristina
oh, wow – these sound incredible! I love savory basil mixed with sweet.
*sigh* part of me wishes I could be as uncluttered, but I would miss my popsicle mold(s). 🙂

Me too! I know, I love popsicles! I just have so much stuff. The funny thing, I have to space, but I want less stuff. But I like popsicles. See?!!! Back and forth, back and forth lol!
